The This Child Will Live Institute

Who We Are and Why We Exist

The This Child Will Live Institute was born from the true story of a family who, through life's most difficult challenges, discovered that even when an illness cannot be cured, life never loses its value. We believe that our greatest strength lies in love, human connection, and dignity, enabling children and their families to live life to the fullest, every moment of the way.

Through raising awareness, bringing professionals together, supporting families, sharing our story in the book *This Child Will Live*, and working towards establishing Slovenia’s first children’s palliative care home, we strive to build a society where no child and no family has to face life’s greatest challenges alone. Our mission is not simply to provide care and support along the way, but to create a place where every moment of life can be lived to the fullest.
A PERSONAL JOURNEY THAT INSPIRED THE FOUNDING OF OUR INSTITUTE

It All Began with Klemen

Even before our son Klemen was born, we learned that he had a severe congenital brain abnormality. What followed was a time of uncertainty, difficult decisions, hospital treatments, and the daily challenges of caring for him. When Klemen was around two years old, a pediatric palliative care plan became part of his ongoing care.

For us, palliative care did not mean giving up hope. It meant helping to ease his suffering, providing support for our family, and creating more opportunities to enjoy life together.

Through our journey with Klemen, we came to understand what families facing similar challenges truly need and how important it is to have someone they can rely on. It was this experience that inspired us to establish the This Child Will Live Institute. We want more families to receive the support they need.

Our Mission and Vision

So That No One Has to Face Life’s Most Difficult Moments Alone

Raising Awareness and Understanding of Pediatric Palliative Care

Raising Awareness

Through our book, podcasts, lectures, and public discussions, we raise awareness of pediatric palliative care. By sharing our personal experience, we help people understand how palliative care can improve a child’s quality of life while supporting the needs of the entire family.

Connecting Families and Professionals

Providing Support

We bring together families, healthcare professionals, and organisations, encouraging the sharing of experiences, information, and mutual support. Our aim is to help parents find the answers they need and know where to turn for guidance and assistance.

Improving Children’s Quality of Life

Creating

We are working towards establishing Slovenia’s first children’s palliative care home. We envision a welcoming place that brings together specialist care for children, respite for parents, opportunities for families to stay together, and compassionate support through end-of-life care and bereavement.

Together, we create a safe, supportive environment for vulnerable families every day and lay strong foundations for Slovenia’s first children’s hospice.

Everything we create with love—from our book and podcasts to expert talks and bringing families together—brings us closer to one shared goal. We firmly believe that children with incurable illnesses and their loved ones deserve far more than excellent medical care. In life’s most difficult moments, they also need a place of warmth, deep understanding, much-needed respite and a true sense of home. Our long-term goal is to establish Slovenia’s first children’s hospice. It would offer families information and guidance, specialist care for their child, the opportunity to stay together, and support through end-of-life care and bereavement. We aim to develop this project in partnership with families, professionals, public institutions and supporters.
